Sheltered instruction is an approach to teaching English language learners which integrates language and content instruction. The dual goals of sheltered instruction are: to provide access to grade-level content, and to promote the development of English language proficiency. In this session we will explore the seven components of Sheltered Instruction: differentiated instruction, language objectives, accessing prior knowledge, building academic vocabulary, student interaction, learning strategies and assessment.
